Massage

Massage therapy is the art and science of using touch for healing and relaxation. It involves working with soft tissue to increase blood flow, release tension and knots, rehabilitate the body after injury and improve overall wellbeing.

Relax and Unwind Massage

A massage session dedicated to relaxing, unwinding and returning to stillness.

You can choose the area of your body you would like to receive work on; some people like a whole body massage, others prefer to focus on their back and shoulders. I’ll always ask you which areas you would like to focus on, and if there are any areas you would like to me avoid.

The amount of pressure is also entirely up to you; some people like a gentle, light massage, and others prefer deep pressure. Again, I’ll always ask you what you’d prefer, and throughout the session I’ll check that you’re still feeling comfortable.

What to expect in a Relax and Unwind session:

  • Gentle music
  • Soft lighting
  • Warm, cozy room
  • Blankets and towels so you’re always comfortably covered up
  • Heated packs and eyemask

^ These are all things we’ll discuss at the beginning of your session – you can change any of the above if you want (e.g if you’d prefer silence to music).

Pain Relief Massage

In a pain relief session, we’ll focus on treating a specific area of tension or injury.

I’ll use techniques such as soft tissue release, myofascial release and trigger point therapy to help ease any sore and tense spots.

At the beginning of the session, we’ll discuss which area you’d like to focus on, why that area feels sore or tense, and the different techniques I’ll use in the treatment.

We’ll also talk about the pressure you’d like, and if you have a preference for light or deep pressure.

There’s a common idea that pain relief or ‘sports’ massage needs to feel really intense and painful to be effective – it doesn’t! “No pain, no gain” is simply not true when it comes to massage. I’ll check in with you throughout the session to make sure you’re still feeling comfortable and not in any pain or discomfort.

After your massage, we can discuss things you might want to adopt to prevent the same tension building up – for instance, exercises and stretches that could help, or how to use heat packs to ease muscular tension.

What to expect in a Pain Relief session:

  • Warm, cozy room
  • Blankets and towels so you’re always comfortably covered up
  • ”Checking in” and conversation throughout the session to make sure you’re feeling comfortable
  • Heat packs for sore and tense spots

^ These are all things we’ll discuss at the beginning of your session – you can change any of the above if you want (e.g if you’d prefer silence to music).

What to expect from any session with me – my principles of massage therapy:

  • Respect. I’ll always respect your consent, boundaries and comfort levels; I’ll never touch an area that you’ve asked to me avoid; I’ll never push you into buying extra products or booking unnecessary sessions; I’ll never share your personal details or anything that happens in your session.

  • Compassion. I believe everybody, and their bodies, deserves kindness and understanding, regardless of age, gender, race, size or ability.

  • Sensitivity. I’m aware that, for lots of people, massage and touch can feel really uncomfortable – for a huge variety of reasons. If you decide you would like to try a massage, I promise to observe any information you give me without judgment, and be sensitive to your background, needs and preferences when I’m working with you. I’ll never ask you to disclose the reasons behind a particular need or preference.

  • Honesty and authenticity. I pledge to be my most authentic and honest self when I’m working with you; to treat you with empathy and non-judgment; and to be as supportive a therapist as possible, while maintaining my own boundaries. If I feel that our client-therapist relationship is not going to work, for whatever reason, I’ll discuss it with you – and I ask you to do the same.
